A DAUGHTER – FATHER TALK A FEMALE YOUNG REPUBLICAN

Work and Welfare. Politicians, especially many Democrats, would have us believe they are mutually exclusive. Individuals get to the point where they can not work regardless of whether or not they will work, or can work and therefore, they are entitled to be on the dole. But the reality is that the vast majority of those on Welfare can work. That is, they can do something productive, something to help society, something to repay the often considerable sustenance they receive from Welfare agencies, public and private. Rarely, if ever does that happen.
It seems as though welfare has at its core and part of its definition the concept of charity. It is as though everything should be given and nothing demanded in return. Nothing! But so many who receive so much can do so much more than they do. Perhaps everyone on welfare of any kind, including and especially the often abused Workman’s Compensation, should be required to work 10, or 20, or 30 hours weekly in some kind, any kind of productive work as a recompense. Nothing in life, nothing can equal the sense of human satisfaction in being productive, doing things for one’s self, and for others, and making an impact in society, however large or small. There are many who feel that whatever is given is taken from somebody else, from the work, efforts, capability or wealth of another. The taken ones feel abused, even angry when what they have is arbitrarily taxed or taken. True, there are those who are destitute, stricken, incapable or incapacitated and they desperately need the help of society. For them, Welfare is viable and valuable, the duty of society. For the rest it should not be given in the view of so many unless there is payback. Quid pro quo.
Most of us get some kind of welfare without really recognizing it as such. Our society provides so many benefits which we take for granted. The next time you are aware that you have gotten something for nothing, think of what it would be like to pay back the debt. For there is a debt somewhere to someone. When you recognize that debt for your own personal welfare, and especially when you try to repay that debt, welcome to the Republican Party.

Subject: A Daughter-Father Talk
One time there was a young teenage girl that was about to finish her first year of college. She considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat and her father was a rather staunch Republican.
One day she was challenging her father on his beliefs and his opposition to programs like welfare.
He stopped her and asked her how she was doing in school. She answered that she had a 4.0 GPA but it was really tough. She had to study all the time, never had time to go out and party and often went sleepless because of all of the studying. She didn’t have time for a boyfriend and didn’t really have many college friends because of all her studying.
He then asked how her friend Mary, who was attending the same college, was doing. She replied that she was barely getting by. She had a 2.0 GPA, never studied. She was very popular on campus and was at parties all the time. She often wouldn’t show up for classes because she was hung over.
He then asked his daughter why she didn’t go to the Dean’s office and ask why she couldn’t take 1.0 off her 4.0 and give it to her friend that only had a 2.0. That way they would both have a 3.0 GPA.
The daughter fired back and said, “That wouldn’t be fair, I worked really hard for mine and my friend has done nothing.”
The father smiled and said, “Welcome to the Republican Party.”
